Guess who said this?

“I used to be a conservative, and I watch these debates and I’m wondering, I don’t think I’ve changed, but it’s a little troubling sometimes when people are appealing to people’s fears and emotion rather than trying to get them to look over the horizon for a broader perspective, and that’s kind of where we are.”

I've been saying it for a while: I didn't leave the GOP, it left me

A hilarious catch of a big ole whopper by Newt

Not a Detail Man

Good catch by Josh Marshall on Newt Gingrich's breezy statement during last night's presidential candidate debate that civil service reform could save the federal government "a minimum of $500 billion a year."

That sounded pretty crazy to me since that’s like 15% of the entire federal government. And the vast majority of federal spending goes to the military and transfer payments like Social Security and Medicare.
Well, we looked into it and it turns out that the federal government’s entire payroll, even including the military, came to just $432.6 billion in fiscal 2011. In other words, if you fired everyone who works for the federal government you couldn’t save $500 billion.
Our requests for comment from the Newt campaign have yet to be returned.

But then we know Newt Gingrich is a big-picture kinda guy who can't much be troubled with getting the facts straight. He might have been within a few hundred billion of the right figure.

It reminds me of the story about Will Rogers' suggestion, at the height of the German U-Boat campaign on Atlantic shipping during World War I, that the problem could be solved simply by draining the ocean. Asked how that feat could be accomplished, Rogers replied: "That is a detail, and I am not a detail man."

I Speculate The Speculators Are Jacking Us Again

In case you haven't noticed, but judging by the rampant finger pointing at Obama on comment sections of news articles I'm saying you have definitely noticed, it seems like gas prices are on the rise again. Now, it's cool to blame the President for this because of no new refineries (but there hasn't been a new one since 1976 so darn you too Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and W. Heh Heh ), or for not allowing more drilling (many experts say it wouldn't make a difference), and of course the Keystone Pipeline (which excited me because I thought it would bring rapid delivery of beer. Keystone, though? Why not Dogfish Head Pipeline?) But once again, it wouldn't be the Great Savior people are wishing it was based on the opinions of people who know better than I do.

But I digress. You want to know why gas prices keep rising? Here you go. Check it out and decide for yourself. Thanks!

Newt Gingrich is warned by the FEC to stop his sleazy shenanigans. What's the big deal? Doesn't every PAC pay its leaders 220,000 a month?

Yikes....Newt has balls, I'll give him that.

Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign has received a second warning from the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for widespread financial irregularities, saying the campaign must disclose why nearly $1 million was paid to the candidate, staff and a small group of fundraising consultants for questionable reimbursements.
...A separate disclosure Monday showed that Becky Burkett, a former top official of a nonprofit Mr. Gingrich headed who now runs a pro-Gingrich super PAC called Winning Our Future, paid herself $220,000 in donated money last month — making more in 20 days than any other super PAC official has made in total since the groups exploded onto the scene, a review by The Times showed.
